Alright, thanks for doing this. First; tell us a little bit about yourself.
No problem. Thanks for the opportunity We are two producers and DJ’s from Sweden, more precisely Gothenburg. We both love music and have been doing so all our lives. We spent the year 2010 to develop our names in the industry as well as our production skills. Quite soon we’re releasing our first single which is something we’re looking forward to a lot.
How did your DJ/producing career begin and how did you guys end up as a duo?
As we earlier said, we’re both very passionate about music and have always been since way back in our childhood. We’ve both play different types of instruments and we have also studied music during our high school years. It was during that time that we, through a mutual friend, discovered that we shared the same interest in electronic music, which made us start working together. Even though Axel had DJ’d a little bit before we started working, it wasn’t until we started working together that we both took the Dj’ing-part more serious.
What do you think about blogs like Housebloggen.no and what thoughts do you have around the debate concerning free downloading etc?
Well, the situations with the blogs are really unique. Labels and artist don’t need to hire educated PR people anymore, they can just throw an e-mail to an 18 year old blogger who, with thousands of visitors, get the buzz around a release going like hell, haha. Really interesting. We have actually nothing against blogs, Avicii is the perfect example of how well it works – blasting out tracks for free on blogs and then gain massive attention.
Who inspires your work and what describes your producing style?
Our inspiration comes from a lot angles because we listen to so many different genres. So we get inspired by everything from hip-hop producers such as Embee, DJ Premier & Necro, pop-artists like Robyn, producers like Kleerup, Timbaland & Avant & Bloodshy (The guys behind Miike Snow and Britney’s superhit ‘Toxic’) and MANY more. If we were forced to narrow it down to just producers in the house genre it would have to be Erick Morillo, Fedde Le Grand and of course «the famous Swedes» who we all think have their own sound and constantly are trying out new things.
Let us be a little exclusive here, tell us what is really going on with «State of Sunshine», who is on the vocals and most importantly WHEN can we expect to get our hands on the track?
Haha, which track? State of Sunshine? Never heard of that‚Ķ joking apart. That track has been following us for a long time and we have gotten a lot of good reactions from people which is very fun. We’re assuming that you mean the vocals in the live-footage from our warm-up set for Avicii? If so, the vocals are just a chopped up «Julie McKnight – Diamond Life» acapella which we put there to make the track a little more interesting for the gig. We can’t give you much more info than that it’s signed for now
Top five tracks from 2010 until today?
Genius Of Time – Same Old Place
Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime
Erick Morillo – Live Your Life (Original mix)
Fedde Le Grand – Back & Forth (Fedde’s Future Mix)
Tim Berg – Bromance (Avicii’s Arena mix)
What word of advice can you give upcoming producers and DJ’s?
Always work hard, try to find your own sound/style and network with a lot of people in the business. These days good connections are really necessary.
Do you know any Norwegian producers, if so; what are your favorite tracks?
Well, we know about Martin Danielle & Carl Louis, and we really like their track «The Message». We both got the pleasure of doing a remix of «Estelle – Fall In Love» for Atlantic Records. Axel has been listening to the Norwegian indie-duo «Kings of Convenience» for many years and one of their members, Erlend Oye, who also makes electronic music, has been a great inspiration, like his album «Unrest» from 2003. Another thing while Norway is the subject is that Lanford, even though he was born and raised in Sweden, actually has his roots in Norway, and he knows how to speak it fluently!
Have you had any embarassing moments while DJing?
Not any yet actually, some bad beatmatching here and there maybe but nothing major.
You had (according to the people there) a great warmup for Avicii in Lund back in 2010 – where can we expect to find you behind the decks in 2011?
We surely have some cool upcoming gigs, we just need to figure it all out. Some in Europe, some in the States
What happened to «Leave Me Behind»? You’ve been announcing remixes and new upcoming tracks but this track just went silent after you announced the preview a little while ago. What’s up?
«Leave Me Behind» is still in the owen and is getting ready to see the world We’re still working on it actually but more info about this will be announced soon!
What else can we expect from you in the forthcoming year?
Well to start off, we release our first single in just a few weeks on a major label and besides that we’re gonna continue to work as hard as we have done 2010.
Any final words to your Norwegian fans?
Tusen takk for støtten, det er så gøy å motta alle kommentarer, promoer, og e-post. Vi håper dere vil like 2011 så mye som vi skal gjøre!
